Do I need to be a chef to start a food truck? (Spoiler: Nope.)
For the dreamers without a culinary degree 🍔✨
One of the most common questions I hear is:
“Can I even start a food truck if I’ve never worked in hospitality?”
The short answer? Yes. Absolutely.
The longer answer? You do need a solid plan, some market research, and a clear idea of what problem your food solves - but you don’t need to have worked the pass in a busy restaurant.
Take Adam from Smoothe Operator, one of my podcast guests. No culinary school. No commercial kitchen experience. Just a love for smoothies, great branding, and loads of personality. He learned everything through YouTube and sheer trial and error — and his business is thriving.
Authenticity beats perfection every time.
So if you've been sitting on an idea, worried you're not "qualified" enough — please know this: You’re more ready than you think.

🔦 What I’m Loving This Week
-
Winter solstice has passed! We’re officially on the slow march back to longer days and warmer nights — the perfect time to start planning your summer food truck debut.
-
On my headphones: The Mindset Mentor — loved the ep talking about Imposter Syndrome - don't let it hold you back. Listen here
-
On my radar: Researching POS systems, trailers and compliance for mobile operators — should I write a guide or host a webinar on this? Hit reply with your thoughts, what topic would help you?
-
What I’m learning: That community always trumps competition. Every food truck story I hear reminds me just how generous this industry can be.
Until next week, keep building your dream one day at a time.
